Default cam causing this?

finished my h/c install and now my alternator is starting to bounce the charging up and down. it is a h/o alt. and the cam is a f-13 that has a pretty decent lope to it. i went with a under-drive pulley on the motor and a over-drive pulley on the alt. it mostly does it on idle but a couple of times it has done it while driving. is this normal? any ideas?

If it is an aftermarket alternator, it should have a cut-in rpm rating, basically the speed it starts charging. If your pulley ratio is low enough, you can be below the cut-in speed at idle or possibly 6th gear cruise. You should have a pulley ratio for the underdrive and overdrive pulleys that will help you figure out what engine rpm will get you to the cut in point.
