Default LS1 to LS6 Heads & Intake

Hi, i'm looking at swapping the heads and intake on my '97 C5 LS1.

I have a set of 243 Casting LS6 Cylinder Heads completely assembled, and a LS6 Intake manifold. I was hoping to get a link to a good write up on swapping Heads and Intake only, as well as any information on what additional supplies i'll need. I understand i'll need new valve covers because my '97 LS1s won't work with the centerbolt LS6s. Anything else like that i'll need to know?

My Untuned C5 made 329rwhp and 335 rwtq on a mustang dyno with just DTE LTs, HF Cats, and B&B Bullets and everything else stock. What rwhp range would i be looking at from adding the LS6 Intake, LS6 Heads, and a Dyno tune?

Also, initially i was looking at adding a TSP 228R cam with the Intake and heads, but now i think i'm going to scratch the cam and toss on a 4.10 differential. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dan

I think you would be at 360-370 rwhp. Gears are a good idea, you will feel a bigger difference than going with the cam.

If you are paying someone to do the labor, I would suggest that you think long term. Do you want more power than estimated 370 hp. If so then you should be looking at some ported heads from Texas speed or Patriot Performance to go with the cam you want.

I bought the Heads and Intake already.

Initially was going to install:

Fully port Stage 1.5 CNC job on the Heads (which i own already but unported)
LS6 Intake Manifold (which i own already)
TSP 228R Cam
Comp 921 Springs
LS6 Oil Pump
LS2 Timing Chain
All the bolts & gaskets required
Then the Professional install for about $1500-1800 labor...

Then i decided thats gonna cost me a bit more than i want to spend... and net around 400-430 rwhp.

I then decided i'll just toss on the LS6 Heads and valve train with the LS6 Intake manifold. (Probably new rods too) and instead of the cam and other goodies, i'll just get a 4.10 diff from DTE. Pickup maybe 30rwhp and the pull from the 4.10s should net a similar level of performance.

I'm also still interested in peoples experience swapping LS6 heads & intake to an LS1, odd parts i'll need like valve covers, coil packs, etc.

Thanks,
Dan

the LS6 intake is good for another 15 hp and I think the LS6 heads stock are good for another 15-20 hp

Id say if your going to be doing the work and pulling the heads and intake off might as well do the cam too. The gears will help a little but the 228 cam will really make a power difference and take advantage of the ls6 heads and ls6 intake.
