What could cause an engine to burn *coolant*?
Does anyone know what could be doing this? My mind has jumped from everything as simple as a gasket to a busted coolant passage, but I really have no idea. The engine is definitely not leaking anywhere, but it is burning coolant at a pretty fast rate.
Incidentally, there is no coolant contamination in the oil, no oil burn issues at all, and the engine is fine on power. I'm really puzzled.

Some of the superstroker motors can have an appetite for coolant. I would contact MTI immediately to address the problem. Jason's 422 had the same problem and MTI corrected it.
Definitely a warranty issue IMO.

Yeah - I know. All the same, I am hoping it is nothing major (the car is basically like a kid to me after all), because I love the car and the engine, think it is an awesome setup, and also hope that MTI doesn't have to fork out anything big on this.

I can't see how it could be anything other than either a blown head gasket or warped head. Especially if you are not getting any in the oil... unless you have an intake leak, but I don't think coolant runs through the intake manifold on these cars, right? TB too, unless you've all ready done that bypass mod...

Sounds like head problem warp or break,
or "defect" to water jacket in head

I was thinking that too... maybe they did a little too much porting on those heads and nicked a water jacket

I believe I remember Jason posting that MTI ended up replacing just the block on his 422. That would point towards a problem with resleeving the block, not to a gasket or such.

Could be either a head gasket, over ported head or a leaky sleeve. Hard to tell until we get it into the shop. Bring it in at your convenience and we'll get it fixed and back to you asap! Sorry for the problem but we'll stand behind it 100%.

Awesome and thank you! I will call y'all tomorrow to arrange getting this in (may be tomorrow?). Hopefully the Dynatech weld-ons will be in soon also so we can take care of that (plus the few other non-warranty extras that I will be paying you for).
For what it's worth, I changed the oil to take a look at it - saved the old oil and old filter for you guys as requested. Looked completely fine. I also did a test drive after change - ran well and did not get hot (I filled the coolant).
You guys rock!

I think this is why MTI might be seeing my Corvette in their shop sometime this year.
