Default '02 Z06 Pistons

I am pulling my motor apart, and I am going to be replacing the pistons. I can't decided between Forged Pistons, or '02 Z06 Pistons. I have heard that they are a slightly new design. Anyone know about them?

GM didn't really change the piston much, but they did change the ring set. There was a mid-year change in the LS6/LS1 piston in 2001 MY. They started coating the piston with a polymer and they reduced the skirt to wall dimension. This was to address the "cold knock" several owners talk about.

yes i think the only real change is the coating...add some Total Seal rings and ARP rod bolts and your done. Your not taking this all apart without installing some heads are you? also...you doing this at the apartment...i might have to come by and watch.

I'm 99% sure there is no increase in structural integrity w/'02 LS6 pistons.

Ryan, it's all apart in my garage right now. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> My motorless car is sitting in a parking space. I plan on taking my dissassebled motor to either Wayne Calvert, or Performance Auto.
