Default Oil Change/ No Filter Change

I was changing my oil the other day and after draining it, I realized i has no filter to replace the old one with, so I went ahead and left it on. Can I just put off the filter change til the next oil change, or should I go ahead and change the filter and top off the oil?? Problem is, Im not sure when the filter was last changed, there is a date of 6-30 written on it, so I'm guessing I should go ahead and pull it off soon, but can I avoid changing the oil as well?

BTW, Mobil I of course <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Change the oil filter for sure...thats where the bad stuff is. You should be able to change the filter without having to drain the oil.

only problem with not doing the filter when you did the oil is now you have the 3/4 qt.(est.) of oil that resides in the filter(when motor is off) still in there! so you kinda missed part of the oil change!

oil filter 6 bucks, why would you not spend 6 buck to protect you 20 thousand dollar investment?
