Default pulley install???

I just got my ASP underdrive pulley (finally)! Now I need help with the installation. I've heard it is a real pain in the *ss. If anyone can give me detailed help I would be very happy. Also, would it just be easier to have a shop do it. If that would be easier, how much for installation and does anyone know of any good shops in the Jacksonville/Orlando FL area. Sorry so long, thanks for the help.

Well, the first time I just paid $30 to a shop and they installed it. If you have a local shop thats done it and will do it for $30, TAKE IT TO THEM. Its not a super difficult mod, but $30 is worth it IMO.

Anyways, if you cant find a shop, you'll need a medium sized 3 jaw puller, a long breaker bar, a deep 24mm socket or a 24mm socket with 3" extension (preferably 1/2" drive stuff here). You break the bolt free with the breaker bar and 24mm socket, then back it out until the bolt is only in 2-3 threads worth, then install the puller. It should pull almost all the way off before you bottom out against the bolt. Mine came off by hand after that.

Putting the new pulley on is much easier...push it on a bit, start the old bold back in and use it to pull the pulley onto the crank. Torque it as hard as you can (manual says 240lbft), then remove the bolt. Put in the fresh bolt, torque to 37lbft, then turn an additional 140 degrees.

If you have a manual car, put it in 3rd or 4th gear during this. If you have an A4 you'll need to remove the inspection cover on the drivers side near the starter and wedge a screwdriver in (otherwise you'll just turn the motor during the tightening).

thanks for the info, I think I can handle it but I think that I'm going to look for a good shop and save myself the trouble. <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0">
