Fernco mod
I don't actually think it will increase horsepower much if at all, but last night I decided to do the Fernco mod just for the fun of it. (Think of it as therapy, like basket weaving.)
So I bought a 1056-33 Fernco coupler. It has an opening of 3.38 inches on both ends. The throttle body is a LOT wider than that. (I haven't even tried fitting it to the MAF housing.) Someone said you could heat the coupler in boiling water, or briefly in the microwave. But then how do you stretch it?
Has anyone tried a 1056-43? It's 3.38" on one end and 4.38" on the other.

the 3x3 fernco will stretch over the T-body just fine. It fits nicely on the MAF.
This mod makes it a royal pain in the *** to mount the airbox though, and its too rigid to allow engine flex, which sometimes results in busted tabs on aftermarket airbox lids.
I'd recommend the SLP smooth bellows, I have one and it fits cleanly. I was actually the one that came up with the LS1 Fernco mod back in '98, and I only ran it for a year. It used to be called the "NineBall Air Intake Mod" back in the old school LS1.com days. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

How do you stretch it ovr the T-body? You talked me out of doing it, but I still wonder how you do it.

Re: Fernco mod
I had the 4x3 Fernco on my car for a while but I think it had something to do with my MTI lid cracking because of lack of flex. I also have SLP's thinking I would run that instead but it fits like shi* on the bottom side of the throttle body. I'm now back to the stock one..Joe.
