OK, somebody tell me why this won't work???
Why not fab an aluminum "box" that will sit on top of the intake to fill with Ice to keep it cool? I know there's not a lot of space between the back of the intake and the bottom of the cowl, but if you cool the front of the intake, won't that minimize the effects of the heated back end?
It just seem logical to me, so tell me why it won't work!
Thanks guys!

water will drip down on the staging lanes and burnout area and you will not be able to run the car till it is dried off. Also, weight, fastening the box etc.
I find it best to ice the intake, with the hood up, roll the car to the staging lanes, then start it and idle for a bit and do your burnout.
With my car (althought with a plastic intake) I find hotlapping works really really well.

Won't Icing the intake work even better with an aluminum intake???
Seems like it would take longer to cool down, but equally long to heat back up.
I'm thinking about rigging up a purge to spray OVER the intake to cooli toff big time before I stage.
Works well for SBC engines that purged thorugh the motor before they run, so it seems like that might work too!

You need to see over it, and you can't drip stuff on the dragstrip.
May folks will put icebags in towels on top of traditional SBC at the track. If you drip stuff you might have traction problems.

I saw in Lingenfelters catalog where they have something like a cold blanket to go over the intake to keep it cool....... I dont have a catalog nereby but when I find one I will give some more info on it..... it would probably be better b/c a bag of ice will drip or cause condensation
