What is your guys and gals fav. oil filter to use?

I've heard the AC Delco Ultraguards are good. What about the Mobil 1 filters?

Ahh, I don't know what you are meaning by that post. Can you expand on that for me? Just making sure there isn't something I don't know about AC Delco filters that I should.

They discontinued all Ultraguard production, except for the UPF44 (which fits the LS1, LS6 and the Cavalier Z24/Sunfire GT).

Second best to this is the Mobil 1 and the K&N (same filter, different labels)

For the lower cost ($3) filters, you can't beat the regular AC Delcos. Stay away from all Fram filters, they suck period.

I used the A/C Ultra Gold for my first oil change, but I couldn't find one at Pep Boys when I went to change my oil a couple of weeks ago. I bought a Purolator Pure One filter, the long one, not the short one that comes from the factory. The long filters give you more filter area to keep the oil cleaner.

The PureONE filter is a bit restrictive for a high performance application, they pack the filtering media in there very tight in order to get the good numbers they get, so oil flow is somewhat restricted at high rpms. A fully synthetic oil filter like the Mobil 1 doesn't restrict the oil flow as much, so it's the better choice.

Thanks for the info guys! I think I'm going to look into getting a Mobil 1 Filter or a K & N. I'm using full syn motor oil so I'm going to extend the time I use the oil out a little longer. I thought I might as well get a good filter right away since it's not going to get changed until the oil is.

Be careful of too much filtration, this resistance will cause bypass of filter under hi rpm loads, when that happens unfiltered oil will make it to motor parts. This is why long AC Delco filter is hard to beat, good compromise of filter/flow.

This is the exact reason that I use the AC Delco filter. I run Royal Purple w/ the normal oil change intervals, so I don't see the need to spend $10 on a filter vs. $3 for the AC. JMO

That is what makes the Ultraguard and Mobil 1 (K&N) filters so good, because they use synthetic filtration media, they can filter out the smaller particles while maintaining a good flow of oil as well. This is because it's a depth type filter that traps the dirt on different levels, so it doesn't need to pack the material as tightly as a paper or blended filter that filters out to smaller ratings. That's why I say the PureONE isn't good for hipo applications, because it has to pack it's filtering media so tightly to get the good numbers it gets, and it's flow ability is not very good.

I've never been able to find the AC Delco UltraGuard, so I've always used Mobile 1 oil filters with good results.
