Default Head Cam Question

I have a 1999 Camaro SS with some minor bolt on stuff. I am thinking about heads and a cam but don't know where to start. Am I better off getting a package that has everything included? Also what power gains are possible?

Thank You for any help, Kyle

You'll want to start with some headers first and you need to decide your goals for the car (ET/trap speed/drivability) and budget.

Hi Kyle,

There are several options out there. Are you planning to do the work yourself or have a shop do it? There are plenty of good shops for LS1's, and conveniently most of them are on the right side of your screen in the Sponsor section on this board. Thunder Racing, MTI, MMS, Cartek, Agostino, and others all make great products. Since you're in New Jersey, you may want to look up Cartek as they're in NJ also.

I would definitely suggest getting a package deal that includes everything. All the above companies (and I'm sure others) offer this and it's a good way to know that the parts you're getting will work well together.

As far as power, expect 380-420 horse at the wheels depending on specific mods and how strong your engine is to start out with. Torque doesn't gain as much with most LS1 setups...expect 360-400 lb ft at the wheels.

Be sure to ask whatever questions you have on this board...these guys are very knowledgeable and helpful. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
