Default 98 LS1 surging slightly

Hey everyone, I recently replaced the stock airbox and MAF with an MTI airlid, and a Granatelli MAF. Since doing these mods I notice that my engine runs a little more roughly and surges a bit. It drops to around 850-900rpm and then surges back to 1050-1100.

While we were doing the install my brother in law mutilated the temperature sensor that plugs into the lid trying to remove it from the stock assmebly. He didn't damage the component of the sensor, just the plastic housing around it. Being impatient and cheap I said screw it and plugged it in. Could this be the problem or is it the MAF itself? (I already disconnected the battery for a couple hours to try to reset the PCM... Same deal afterwards)

Thanks in advance. Hope this isn't too noob for u guys <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
