I drove over a rock/boulder (around 10" in diameter) today. Before any body asks, "What'd you do that fer?" It was unavoidable! There is a lot of road construction around where I live (Austin,Tx). The truck that was in front of me went over it w/ no problem, but I couldn't see it until he past over it. By then it was too late. I hit it doin about 30mph. It hit the cross member thing that protects the steering, making a huge dent in that, and then put a hole in my oil pan about the size of my fist. As black smoke began to pour out of the bottom of my car and the oil pressure guage dropped to zero, I pulled over as fast as I could. It probably was like 20 seconds from the time I hit to the time I was able to pull off and shut it down.


There was still oil dripping from the hole and a puddle when the tow truck hauled it away.
