Help with cleaning head gasket off???
I know to scrape off the old head gasket with a plastic ice scraper, but do I need to be concerned with gasket debris falling into the exposed water jackets??
BTW engine breakdown went better and faster than planned. Thanks for all the helpful info avaialable.
what heads/cam are you installing?
Going with ARE S1 heads with a TR224-114 cam. LS6 intake, SLP LT headers.... etc. etc. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> See sig.
I just want to know if the debris is a problem if some gets inside the coolant passages. There doesn't seem to be a way to avoid it.
<strong>I found a neat way. (with a vacuum cleaner) Just hold the nozzle in front of the scraper. Works a treat. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Plan B is right Mark a shop vac works great to keep gasket material and dirt which I don't think your engine has any <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> out of cylinders and water jackets, I've done this for years on engines I've rebuilt. Good luck on the project <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I used high quality paper towels rolled up and slid into the holes. I also used a shop vac as I scraped to catch the crap. This is THE most important part of doing heads if it is not clean you might get a leak.

Shop vac. I had a plastic hose and then brake line on the end I used this to clean out the head bolt holes. When I scraped I did not have the brake line on.
