Default Phase 1 of the H/C project is nearly complete!

Well, phase one of the project is nearly complete. With the help of my good buddy Andy (Xsta Z28), we managed to get everything dismantled last night except for the oil pump (putting an ARE ported unit in) and the cam. This picture was taken before I started the cleaning process which is now completed.

I found a great way to get the coolant out of the bolt holes! I bought some fish tank air tubing and used it like a straw with my shop vac. Cleaned them out super-duper fast!! I also cleaned the carbon buildup off the tops of the pistons with a rag and some carb cleaner.

Project is on hold until I have time to work on it again in a couple weeks. She'll just have to sit and wait for me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

This is going much faster and much easier than I thought. Andy has been a great help. He always seems to know what to do next. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Use vacuum to clean bores etc. keep lifter area covered and compressed air to blow out bores, you could also turn motor by hand to clean debris off bores as pistons move out of the way in each cylinder, if debris gets in lifter area, wash down with oil and have drain plug out at same time to flush it out.

EEK! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Who stole the top end of the engine!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

It was quite a bit of work, but fun at the same time. Got more accomplished in one day than planned.

Warning to all that want to do this. THE EDGES OF EVERTHING ON THE ALUM BLOCK/HEADS ARE VERY SHARP!!! My hands look and feel like I put them through a food processor!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> How Mark got away with minimal injuries is beyond me.

I bought gloves but some shmo put to diffent sizes in the bag! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Now the big ??? Where does everything go??! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
