Default New Cam, how much more valvetrain noise is "normal"?

Just installed a Comp XE 224/568 and fired it up for a sec to be sure it would run (kinda loud to be sitting there to warm it up this late) I noticed a good deal more valvetrain noise while at fast idle than I had with the stocker(couldnt hear it at all stock).

I know its normal to have some extra, and had heard the Xtreme lobes are even louder. I dont mind the noise, and only heard it when I was standing next to the engine with the hood up, Did anyone notice a significant increase in noise, am I just paranoid?

I realize this is one of those questions that is next to impossible to answer, and appreciate any help on the matter.

There will be some more valvetrain noise because of the higher lift and the faster ramp rates. Did you also do a spring and pushrod install? Remember that the springs are going to put more pressure on the valvetrain components in order to avoid valve float. That means more friction which means more noise.

Yea, Like I said I know there will be some, I'm just trying to verify if this is or is not excessive.

I know this is going to be a VERY hard thing to do online though.

I'll take a closer listen to it tomorrow when I warm up the motor for the spring break in...

Freak, these are questions you want to answer to assure your self this noise is normal: retainers clear rocker arms ok? pushrod length is correct for proper preload? rocker arms clear valve covers with additional lift of new cam?

It didnt look likeit when i turned the motor over by hand with the rocker covers off...

stock length pushrods, didnt have any play in them when i did the rockers, dont know how to tell what the base circle is though maybe Ill have to get a pushrod checker..

I hadnt thought of the valve covers hitting. I kow there are lots of people using about the same or higher lift than I so I didnt think it would be a issue, but Ill remove the covers and see if there are any marks on the inside...

thanks

I just fired it up for the spring seating prcedure or whatever its called.

The noise is MUCH quieter after a few minutes of running it, its audible but not obnoxious. maybe the lifters had bled down sitting there and didnt get pumped up in teh 15 seconds I ran the car last night.. I dunno

regardless, It is at a level I can easily call normal.

Thanks again
