h/c question, suggestions
I'm in the market for heads/cam/headers. I plan on keeping it naturally aspirated and there are so many choices. I see people recommending the T1 or B1 cam, etc. For my setup which would give me the best results and am I on the right track with the MTI stage 2 heads and cam. Is there anything in addition to the heads/cam/headers that I would need to do at the same time?
How much should I expect to pay for installation? I've called a few shops and some tell me that they have to remove the engine to do the install, then others say the engine stays in the car. Help.

Heads and cam is a real tough choice to make. There are lots of vendors making lots of power out there.
I went with Cartek's LS6 Stage II-X package. It is very aggressive and yeilds awesome power when combined with MAC headers and the flowmaster collector mod.
I got 437.8 RWHP through 4.10 gears without my throttlebody being ported, and not taking into account my SLP bellows kit, and my Flowmaster collector mod to my Y pipe.
The MAC headers really shine when you rev your car up to high RPMs. My rev limiter is now 7000 and my car makes great power across the RPM range and maxes out at 6400 RPM.
The cam I went with is a 224/224 113 with a high lift. It is a perfect complement to the aggressive LS6 heads Cartek put on my car.
If you are interested, give them a call. www.Cartek.net
The engine stays in the car for a Head and cam swap. Only the top end of the motor is disassembled. Most shops do it this way, and anyone that takes the motor out of the car is just looking to charge you more money for the install because they don't want to lean inside your car to install the cam.

From: HOU - yeah, you know the rest.
You will be pleased with MTI's work, I've had 7 cars modified by them in the past 7 years or so and they have taken care of me from day one. You won't find a better quality product or shop then MTI.
Well first thing you should do before you spend your money is do some more research.
Be dang sure you are getting what you think you are getting. Ask a LOT of questions.
On my webpage there is a lot of info on cams and heads. Stuff like power, E.T., Drivability, etc.
Once you have determined what you want...ask around just to be sure.
Then go ahead and get your package.
MTI? Man, they have done me so right. The car is flying right now. I could not be happier with the heads/cam package that I got from them.
Educate your self, make your chioce, get it done, go drive and just TRY and wipe the perma-grin off your face. One word of warning, it aint easy to get off. DANG I like this set up! You'll see, you'll see!
BTW, is your car an M6 or an A4? Do you plan on racing it at the track? How often?
Good luck, and dont hesitate to ask any questions... there are some right nice folks on this board.

The rest of the valvetrain is usually upgraded automatically with ported heads/cam (springs, retainers, pushrods)

my bad, for some reason my sig didn't show up; my ride is-
2002 Z28 M6 Silver
K&N FIPK
Borla
Pro 5.0
i've heard that you don't need the custom tuning with the M6. I don't mind spending a few extra bucks when I do this, I want it done right the first time. Thanks for all of the replies so far.
