Default do all LS1s have noisy valvetrains?

I have the known cold knock and its not that sound. It sounds like a skate board wheel spinning when i
have the hood open and rev the motor. The noise is coming from the center front area(not a specific spot)
and increases and decreases with rpm...even lasts past the rpms returning to idle rpm from a rev. I am just
checking with you guys just to make sure the engine is still ok
I really do NOT want to rebuild!!!
That cold knock also seems to not go away until the engine is well warmed(like 10 Minutes)

My 98 LS1 motor was failry quiet valvetrain wise when stock. There was a lot of discussion back on LS1.com, during the first year of the LS1, about the noise I believe you are referring to. It has something to do with a fuel system part, I think. Anyway, the valvetrain is definately noticable with the aftermarket cams. I personally think it has to do with the larger use of aluminum in this motor and the composite intake(I think its material is more dense than aluminum and transmits sound better), but that is just my thoughts on it.

Just my 2 cents, I am no expert but I have heard of issues with the belt tensioner and the fuel purge valve.

I believe that v8's have valvetrain noise as well as injector noise, my Mustang had it , and my SS has it as well. I do believe I have a bit of the cold knock, but it goes away after the engine is warmed up

Just my 2 cents

Hmmmm, it sounds more like the lifters are where it is coming from. My engine is fully stock with
the exception of the Turbo's. I also found that my manifold bolts are loose and a couple had
fell out I also think a spark plug may have started to back itself out as well. I smelled exhuast everytime i would kick into it and at cold start up. Do you guys think that could cuase a condition inside the cylinder that could contribute to my knock etc...?
