Default oil pump question

first off let me say that i understand what benifits going from a ls1 oil pump to a ls6 to a ported ls6 give you, more volume and pressure. my question though, is why? is it because higher revs decrease oil pressure(about 6000rpms) or is it because once you take off the oil pump it might not go back on in as good of a working order? i see people saying its good insurance, but insurance for what? im just curious to see why a higher oilk pressure is desired. my stock pump is always at 40psi idle and 50psi cruising and 60-70psi accelerating/driving hard. Im not trying to challenge anything, but just find hte root reason why people want the higher oil pressure.

because at 7000 rpm you want your internals to have plenty of oil. i think 10 psi per 1000 rpm is a general rule of thumb.

so by that rule of thumb the stock oil pump is not keeing up with stock rev limiter? because i dont plan on going higher than 6500rpms

In my experience you do not need a different pump...they are all about the same anyway...It is called marketing (ie it is something to sell us). For every oil pump that is the problem their are a 100 times the cause is something else. "real reasons" people do not have adequate oil pressure are too large bearing clearances, missing or damaged O ring, and missing oil galley plugs or the dumbell. It is ignorant to think that if oil pressure is good then more oil pressure/volume is better.

Most people swap oil pumps in the earlier year car becuase they early oil pumps had a small reputation for failing.
