What temp should my t/a be running at idle?
And at what temp is it running too HOT?
The temp guage is reading around 217 and its about 80+ degrees outside right now, and both fans are kicking on periodically.
THANX!!!

MOBE,
I guess a good place to start would be, do not rely on your stock gague to give you an accurate reading, it's ambiguoius at best, second, with stock programming, the first fan isn't cued until 228 to 230 F, in my guesstimation in 80 F weather, your stock gauge would be straight up at 210 unless you have a FTRA system on the car? As long as the fans are cycling, I wouldn't worry, but check it with A-Tap to be sure your okay.
Joe.

Believe it or not, but the guys at GM seem to think that the car runs at its most effecient state when the temps are 210F+ <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Something to do with emmissions... That's why the gauge reads about 210F in the center of the dial. But as someone else all ready said, it is far from accurate.

Yes, engine temp gauges are kinda wacko and vary from car to car. Most of the stock cars I've seen have the temp indicator straight up at operating temp. With a 160F T-stat they tend to stay at the first dash (around 185F temps actual).
I've autotapped some stock LS1s that showed 220F, so its not abnormal.
