Default Your thoughts about the TR224 cam??

How do you like the cam? if you could do it again would you pick the same cam? What are the downfalls from going from a stock cam to the TR224? Would it be good fo a daily driver? Pros and Cons???
THANKS

You can't go wrong with the Thunder cam. My stock, full weight 2002 WS6 A4 ran a best of 13.21 @ 106.89mph. After my JPR S2 heads and Thunder cam with FLP's and Borla my car ran a 11.99 @ 115.87mph!!! Thats with the stock F1's and stock converter!! No doubt that the heads are working awesome with that cam. I got the 114lsa and it idles great for a 224 cam It makes a awesome torque curve. You'll love it. Just my .02

The idle quality on my TR224 112 LSA is excellent, even with a 750 rpm idle. My only regret is not going bigger. This cam is so much tamer than my Lunati 221/224 .558/.560 113LSA cam (idle wise), but it make much more torque in the low and mid-range and a touch more power up high. I'm in the 410 rwhp range through a locked-up converter with it. It rocks.

I love the cam. A few dyno tricks and I would have been bumping 400 with stock heads.

Driveability is excellent...once you get used to throttling it a bit more in low RPM situations to avoid a little surging.

Id pick it again...

I have had the TR 224 114lsa cam in my car for a few months now and I can't get over how well it drives in town and still make the power it does. As Patrick said, it idles like a baby at stoplights. I almost wish it had just a little more lope. LOL I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.

Guys great to hear your feedback. I have a 2001 SS with the following mods:

FLP LT's no cats / Borla (capped) / MMS TB / Lid, Plugs and wires, and a 160 Tstat with HPP3 for fan operation and shift firmness.

Had a few other questions. I am getting the TR224 114lsa cam with titanium retainers and comp cam springs with 7.400 chromoly rods. Once this cam is in the engine, will the engine fire up? My idle is around 750 right now with the TB installed. Will the cam work in an A4 withouth tuning? (I do intend to go get my car dyno tuned from MMS in southern cali in a week or two), but before then will it work? Also and trick/holes/hints/tips etc to give me? Also do I have to do anything to the tranny to help it shift properly? did you guys notice any shift problems?

I dynoed in at 346 HP and 362 Torque at the wheels. WIll my stock tranny and stock rear end be able to handle this cams power with eagle F1 tires?

I know its a ton of questions, but thats what this community is for eh hehe =)

Thanks

It should run at that idle. Look at Trevor's car. His is running at 675 rpm with about the same cam.

I have the 224 112 and I love it. I have an M6, so it ran without any major problem before the tunning. I just had the MMS tuning done and it runs great. It has a great torque curve. I would do it again. Maybe go a little bigger if anything, my peak power is at 5900 RPM (369RWHP). Email me if you have any questions.

I also have the cam and I have to admit that I like it alot, it surges some but not too much and not that often, very streetable cam for an M6 for sure.

I noticed a lot of post from California. Who has successfully smogged this cam? With all the gushy love notes about this cam, I will use it if can pass smog here in Cali.

Thanks,
Scott
