Default 396 sat for a year startup questions????

Ok we have a 94 Z28 A4 with a MTI 396 stroker in it. Its been sitting at my uncles for about a year! Without starting or anything. We had to move it until we got the house finished. Now the house is finished. And we need to bring the car back to life. What kind of things do you recomend befor i start it up again. Oil change syphon gas out. new plugs????

I dont want to fock it up. Its gonna be our drag/street car. With a lotta weight reduction solid roller cam huge 2.08 1.60 heads and gutted Lt4 intake. On top of the original 396 from MTI!

So what do you recomend for long term storage start up??????

We just cranked a drag car 3 weeks ago that sat for 2.5 years. We removed the plugs and squirted a little bit of Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder and we changed the oil and drained the fuel. We turned the engine over a few times by hand with a breaker bar. Once we reinstalled the plugs and added fresh gas, we did a quick check of the wiring and other essentials. Once we primed the fuel pump abit, we turned it over and it fired right up. No problems.Of course we had to hook up a battery charger. Just make sure you are easy on it untill it reaches normal temp.

Maybe pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the car a bit to get the oil circulatin and to pump up the lifters?

Worst case the gas in there has lost some octane, I'd would not beat on the car if it has hi compression.

No its not a must. But, the walls/pistons/rings will be dry and thats how you break a ring which is not too good. Its a safety measure that I use and so far so good.Remember the trans and rear will be dry also so move the car slow at first and get things lubricated and warm. Old gas usually contains alot of H20 from condensation so I would recommend getting rid of the old fuel + the octane loss and other problems it can cause such as fouled plugs. Edited due to cant type sometimes

It depends on how the car was stored. One of mine sits for 7 months out of the year. (It's the vert. . . man it sucks living up north!)

Anyway, when I take mine out of storage, I just start her up, let her idle until warm and take out for a good 1 hour easy cruise. Then get on it one or two good times. Before storage, I change the oil drive to the gas station (enough time to bring her up to temp) and fill up with the good stuff and Stabil as treatment. Drive her right home, disconnect the battery and throw a couple boxes of baking soda inside and button her up!

Yea, I know, living up north really sucks (I'm from New Orleans originally) Well, at least it cuts down on the insurance bills!

You guys should try living in Minnesota! Here's what I do, I store my car 7 Months a year, every year. Pull the plugs, if you can get some oil in there do so. I then prime the motor with the plugs out untill oil pressure is achieved. Dont worry about the gas, assuming you put premium fuel in there before it should be ok for LIGHT LOAD LOW RPM Use! Fill it up with the fresh stuff and change oil as soon as you can. Then just drive it. I have never had a problem , good luck, enjoy!
