Default Tappng on start up

When I first start up my ls1, it makes a tapping noise until warmed up. I know the oil is not low cause I have checked. Does this mean I have a bent push rod or something else?

I have a 100k warranty on my car and there is about 66k on it now. The other day someone said I am puffing out some smoke from the tailpipe... is this typical? Piston rings going bad?

Thanks
Chris

Sounds like cold piston slap. GM says normal (up to a point) and there are lots of threads up here and on ls1.com, run a search.

White "smoke out of tail pipe". Make sure you're not mistaking it for vapor on a cool engine/cool day (disipates quickly). If it is smoking, pay attention to when it is happening:
- Only for a short time after startup
- Under hard acceleration
- Etc.
This will help tell you what the scoop is.

Dude... that is such a relief! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Thanks for the info... about the smoke, I am not sure yet. I was told by someone who saw me whip up on a 5.0 stang and so it must be during hard acceleration. What does that mean?

Thanks
Chris

Smoke is normal. LS1 likes to run a little rich at WOT. That's why power tuning and custom tuning (as well as LS1 Edit work) can sometimes make more power, since the mixture is leaned out.

I am planning on modding my thermo for lower temp, maybe doing the throttlebody coolant bypass, tires better than GSC's, spark plugs (67k on odo!), and maybe plug wires.
