What is this in my oil?
Same garbage was on my breather cap the other day when I changed my oil. I just recently deleted the pcv system, so it should be going away shortly. My car runs fine, doesnt use any coolant, and there wasnt any on the dipstick to indicate a blown head gasket. Oil sits on the top and the water is on the bottom once it settles, so if you check your oil in the morning before the motor has been started, then I'd say there are some problems.
my car has done that since last winter...It seems like it usually does it in the cooler months of the year...I would be AGAINST blown headgasket, but thats just me. I have done a few compression test on my car over that last 1.5 years...always within in 165-180. Used no coolant until the water pump decided to start leaking LOL. My car never gets short trips either...40+ mile trips to school everyday. Just enjoy the car, and clean that **** off every once in a while, or when you add oil...Thats how i roll.
I've noticed something similar I think. The oil in my catch can is that amber color because I recently changed the fluid. When the motor is hot, it looks normal. If its a cold start, my oil in there is a yellowish foam. This only started doing it in this damn cold weather. Oh, and since ppl are saying it might be a head gasket, it got me wondering. First off, I disconnected that radiator level sensor because it doesn't work (I have a new one in the garage). Secondly, on my duals with an H pipe. My passenger side exhaust tip will sometimes smoke a lot more than the other side. Sometimes they smoke the same. Now, I wasn't too worried about it because its a normal smoke from the tips because of the cold weather.
So, tomorrow morning i'm gunna check the radiator level, the oil cap, catch can, and dip stick.

def short trips if your rad is full. My wifes jetta looks a hell of a lot worse than that and i just got done checking the fluids and its full. We also live in a cold winter climate and the car does idle a lot. Tons of short trips as well
Wow my oil cap looks exactly the same, and of coarse you think of the worst right of the bat, but after reading all these post I think it might be a clogged PCV system because in CA it probably been one of the coldest years ever and I drive it my TA to work every day which is about 5 miles away.
Get an oil chemical analyisis done. Used mostly in the aircraft and high end diesel (locomotive and OTR) markets. Provides wear metals, fuel, glycol (coolant), water, viscosity, etc, etc. Also gives you a wear metal base line and can be a nice predictor of pending failures. They can tell what component is failing based on the levels of different metals. Google willlead you to an analysis lab.

Interesting I just ran into the same crap on the oil cap. However I can not solve this: My radiator is full, I never let the car warm up before I drive it, I hardly drive it hard, I have a 160F thermostat and a 4000CFM Taurus fan! Seems like its the cold problem...but my car does smoke sometimes (4-5 times a week) with white smoke that smells like oil...
Not sure what it is now, but I am changing heads and pcv valve and getting a catch can anyhow, just not sure if I should keep driving the car for another 2 weeks as it's my only DD.

Noticed the same thing when doing an oil change, but didn't have milky oil... Started talking to a friend of mine, who is a GM tech & decided that it would be a good idea to pull the passenger side valve cover... Well his assumption was correct, there were two areas by the headbolts were coolant was puddling in the head... So we think possibly a cracked head... Funny thing is I'm not low on coolant nor is it leaking in the crankcase... Dipstick checks out fine & no white smoke from the exhaust... And we pulled the cover back in Nov 06' & I've still been driving it daily with no problems, so I'm kinda baffled...
