You should use the new shims, but the old ones will work as well. You remove them by pulling the Valve seals off. use some channel locks and twist them off. Make sure you use new ones when you reinstall. Once they are off, just pull the shims off the valve guide.
I always use mobil 1 synthetic grease for re-install, some on the shim top will prevent most metal to metal contact until the oil gets going again. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. So if the old ones will work just fine, is there any reason to go through the hassel of installing the new ones? What benefits/drawbacks are there? Thanks again.

I am pretty sure the metal is the same, and the thickness is also the same, but it is very simple to do, and you really should put new seals on it anyway. So you also may as well go ahead and change them. You will kick yourself in the *** later if you have a leaking valve seal, and were that close to changing them

I have never changed mine, and bnever had a problem. I just inspected the inside of an engine that didn't change them and everything was fine. I just installed another cam in a car and didn't switch them. I really don't think it's necessary.

My installer liked the shims that came with kit.
I would definetly use the new shims, & would assume they were designed for the LS6 springs that come with Hotcam Kit.

Default installing hotcam.. got a question..

About the shims that come with the kit.. Do you need to install these or can I use the stockers? At first glance, I couldn't see how to get the old ones off.. TIA.
