Default Cam and gear question

Ok I ran about 5 runs a couple of weeks ago in the 12.2 and lower range. All the 60's were in the low 1.8 range and 1 1.749.Now when I let off the gas I hear and overwhelming whine. The sound only occurs when I back off the throttle and remains untill I get on it again. When I am on the gas it sounds normal.I am installing a cover for the rear this week.
If I blow the rear I would like toput 373's in and a TR224 cam.Do you guys think I will get the same performance or alittle more.I will be getting more HP but taking away gear.My ultimate goal is to set the car up for a blower. What do you guys think it will do with less gear and a bigger cam?Any help would be appreciated.

2001 Camaro SS M6 t-tops,all SLP options,Pro 5.0 w/Lou's Short Stick,lid and filter,Mac headers w/ORY,HPP3 and 4.10s.

Your description of the whine sounds like the pinion bearing is tight or worn. What is your launch procedure? What tires do you get 1.7 from?
Is that a Zexel Torsen rear? I installed a .578"/.578" 220*/220* on a 112* Comp grind and i didnt lose any low speed power, I went 13.1 at 109.5mph with a 2.1 60 ft. compared to a 13.2 at 107.5 mph stock. I was able to go quicker with other mods the same day but this comparison is cam only change.

I use BFG drag radials on the 16 inch salad shooters.I do a good burnout, bring the revs up to about 3800 and dump it.I guess its not the best way to save the rear or clutch but its what works best for me.

You definately have a pinion bearing problem...as far as the gears, I would stick with the 4.10's until the blower. When the blower goes on, you will like a little less gear....traction will be a major concern. I just finished a 93 cobra with a roller cammed 306 with a 10 psi vortech... traction was bad before the blower, nothing like now !!! It will spin the tires through the middle of third gear nonstop when you jump on it. I installed 3.73 gears and we thought about 3.89's, now we are thinking about 3.55's.
Just my .02 cents
Later,
Joe

SScreamin ss01, do you have Zexel torsen rear? I ask because i thought putting bigger than 3.42's in it is difficult? How many hard launch passes does you 10bolt have?

I have the Auburn rear.Putting gears in the two rears should be the same I think.I have roughly 6 passes with a sub 2.0 60' BTW.
My whole question is shifting into 5th in the 1/4 mile. With the TR224 cam will Ibe forced to shift into 5th if I have the rev limiter set at 6600?If someone could figure it out I would appreciate it.I am not really good with numbers...

With 4.10 gear and 25" tire you could go 120mph at 6600rpm in 4th gear.If your tire diameter is a little larger than you could go even faster at same rpm. The rears are not the same for gear swaps.
