Check Engine at 120 mph!
Check Engine at 120 mph! I have a 2001 corvette. Check engine light started to flash yesterday when I reached 120 mph. Slowing down stopped the flashing light however, upon increasing speed to 120 mph again the flashing light returned. No codes, no odd sounds, motor pulls strong. Any idea what this may be? Car has 20,000 miles with stock internals and original plugs and wires. I'm stumped on this one!

Re: Check Engine at 120 mph! If you didn't notice any weird vibrations or noises once it came on, I would take a wild guess and say it might be computer related. Try resetting your PCM and let us know if it comes back.
Re: Check Engine at 120 mph! Do you mean disconnecting the battery? I used the reset button on the dash but being it threw no codes the button did nothing. Also when I drop the speed below 120 the light shuts off. It only happens at exactly 120. Wonder if it's possible I fouled a plug and at that speed or rpm the engine gets a mis-fire reading.

Re: Check Engine at 120 mph! Pretty sure that a flashing check engine light is a misfire. That should set a DTC. Try repeating the same engine conditions (120mph etc) & have someone monitor the cylinder misfire parameters for all cylinders. If you do see a misfire, try changing the plugs. If it's still there try the wires.

Re: Check Engine at 120 mph! There is one thing that I know of that will not throw a code all the time. "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR".
I had the same type of symptoms and my friend couldn't find the problem with his computer, Pep Boys couldn't and the damn thing flashed at certain times. I said screw it, took it to the dealer and they immediately found it with there diagnostic check. $43.00 and it was fixed. They will probably get a bunch of coil codes to that you won't see, I had 8 codes and none showed, only to the dealer.
Go figure that one out. Apparently they know more than we do.
The technician said it is very bad to drive with a bad sensor because when it does finally go, destructive things could happen under WOT or hard acceleration if the sensor fails.
Maybe that's it, good luck
