I've been noticing lately that my oil pressure at idle is lower than normal and the rpm's at idle are about 100 to 150 lower than normal. Car keeps great oil pressure (40+ psi) in normal driving, but it's down between the 40 and 20, so I would guess it's around 25 to 30 psi. Is this harmful? Did I do something to the motor possibly that could cause this? Thanks in advance.

It's an A4 and normally according to the factory tach it pulls 1000 rpms in gear which is around 850 on A-Tap and now it's around 900 on the factory tach.

When my oil is low (a bit) and I have been driving in stop and go traffic, my oil pressure will sometimes go just below 40 and my engine runs a bit hotter. I think this is do to the oil loosing some viscocity (sp). When I get back to normal driving and the engine temp goes down a few, at idle it is back to normal (just over 40).
Any chance this could be the same problem? I am going to try to fix this by going to Royal Purple .. I'd like to see how it fairs in stop and go traffic.
Just a thought.

Mine does the same thing so I am just waiting for it to leave town. I heard somewhere on this board that something in the pump sticks and it causes the pressure to drop.
Gosh dang crappy oil pumps <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Well I don't think its the best thing, the oil pump could be getting ready to take a ****...
Is your car an auto or m6, and what RPM's does it idle at?
