Is the G5 just a peaky cam all together? Or does it peak too high, and people aren't shifting high enough?
This cam interests me only because it is the first cam that I have seen have such difference in dyno performance vs track performance. I know there are dyno queen cams out there, but even those have decent mph at least. I am just trying to understand where the power is going when a car dynos so well, then doesn't really run stellar at the track... not just higher ET but lower mph as well. Does it peak at a point where a stock bottom end couldn't handle shifting that high for many passes? And we just aren't seeing what the cam is capable of because no one wants to spin that high? Just curious.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I definitely think that some with the G5 are shortshifting. I'd like to hear from those that have the cam where they're shifting. Also, peak dyno #'s only go so far. You have to make some nice average power across the curve. I'm not saying that this cam doesn't make nice power at all; I'm just answering your question about cams and dyno #'s in general. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I also agree with Ryan that we've yet to see an all-out track car w/ a fat stall, gearing, etc. to try the cam out. "Loco" is finishing up the install this week in his '01 SS, and he has a Yank PT4500 stall. I think he'll be the first one with a track-oriented converter to try the cam out. I think we'll all be anxious to see the results!

A lot of companies seem to have problems running the MPH their dyno numbers indicated, eh JS?

lol how can you compare track times w/ to dyno numbers with this set-up yet? we all know that anyone can dyno high but not be able to drive for ****...I would not even compare these two categories until we get a consistant track car w/ an experienced driver, it just doesnt make sense to assume the cam wont mph b/c of a few ppl taking their car to the track for the first time....I bet someone could only pull 116 in a 422, I know I could if it was back a couple years my first time out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> ....I have the G5 cam and it is definitely missing some low end power and needs to be reved high, but I honestly have not seen one person that I have heard of b4 test this cam...I have a 12bolt w/ 430s, GTP S2 heads and this cam, my car did 429/386...So whenever LS1 edit is avail for 01s ( to beable to cross in 4th w/ the gears), I'll make a track trip and then I'll judge for myself if this cam can not ET, I dont think its fair to judge a cam based on mph from inexperienced drivers in cars not suited to run, you simply cant compare the mph/ET from a 3700lb car on 17" street tires to another car that weighs in at 3400lbs on 15-16" ET Drags leaving at 6grand..just my .02 tho.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

JS I'm running 1.60 60' times and you're running 1.50, not to mention your -1000 DA to my +2000 DAs. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> I have a feeling this Sunday I'll be in the 11.1 range. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

You don't think 117mph for 440rwhp in a car that is dead hooking is weak?

I have the G5 Cam and new heads with 3:73 gears, ASAP Pulley, Custom tunning, LS6 intake, FLP Headers with SLP Duals and cutout, skinnies on front and nitto's on rear, weight reduction of spare tire and jack, and ran a 11.72 (60' of 1.630) at 117.14 on a stock rearend. With slicks on the back and more tweaking, the car may run 11.5's or a hair less. Car dyno 387 and 391 HP on two sessions. Car is a4 with 3200 vig. Traction has been my main problem, but it is getting a little better with time. Just my experience with this setup. Yes, it can run fast times. My car has been fine tune, and I don't know the shift points. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Remember car has no weight reduction except spare tire and jack plus front sway bar.

Thats a pretty good ET Kent.
117 with a fairly heavy car is impressive on DR with a 3200 stall.Looks like the G5 setup is pretty good. There's easy 11.50's in her with a good tire for sure.

Keep pluggin away Kent.

Hi guys,

You all know I am not a drag racer. But those of you with the G5 cam are doing a great job. So great, I am going to do you all a deal!

I am going to offer Prize $$$$ to any G5 cam equipped car.

Here is the deal.
During the months of April, May and June LG Motorsports will pay $200 to the fastest G5 equipped LS1 car, $100 to the second fastest and $50 to the third fastest car. In addition, if you are using G2 suspension parts, You can add $50 to the amounts.

The requirements will be that the run be recorded by video, that shows the car and the time. It must be on any 1/4 mile track.

You must run a LG Motorsports decal on the car, and a G5 decal. We will give these stickers with your purchase of the cam. You must also register with us here at LG Motorsprorts.

I am very impressed with the G5 performance, and the effort that is being put out by you all, with the cam.
I am sure that now, there will be other vendors who will follow our lead.

In any event, Have at it.

Hey guys, I just want to make it clear. The Prize $$$ will be paid at the end of the month. It will be for the best times in that month, so you have plenty of time to hit the track and get a good time.
Don't forget about the stickers, you must video them also, as the car hits the line. plus the run must be for that day, varified by the time slip, and video that shows times for both lanes. (so we can validate the slip).

If you have any questions or if I didn't make something clear let me know, and I will try to answer your questions.

One last note, you must also register with us and let us know what track you are running at that weekend.

I hope this turns out to be fun for everybody.

PS Just wait till the G5-X cam comes out!!!

Lou Gigliotti
