Default Headers for a SS

Hello, I have a 99 Hugger Orange SS. I currently have the stock dual exhaust from SLP. I am trying to decide on which headers to get.

Question 1 - Do you prefer the "package" headers (FLP Long's etc) or getting just the headers themselves?

Question 2 - if you did just get the headers, which exhaust do you use? Father had a 1969 Z28 clone and I loved the sound of its exhaust.

3rd Question - Did you install them yourselves or did you take them to a garage? Afraid none of my friends own any shops.. and I really havent found places I'm comfortable with the SS for even a oil change.

Sorry if this seems sort of basic but I never had a change to learn the specifics of car modifications.. I'm rather new to modifications.. so if any suggestions on websites that cover ABC's of cars.. that would be great.

Thank you for your time.

if you gonna keep your catback exhaust, go with a package header setup FLP is a great setup, thats what I went with. I think that with no cats would sound very nice. if you want insanely loud I would go with a true dual setup dumped under the car and just get the headers.

I did my headers myself, I needed basic hand tools and to get the car off the ground in the front about 12-15 inches with my SLP suspension I used ramps..... they were a bit tricky but the folks at FLP were great in answering a few crucial questions and I went sailing along, total job took about 5-6 hours. hope this helps ya out. there are install pages somewhere im sure. good luck to ya!

I agree that FLP's are great. I have them on my SS with the SLP dual/dual with no cats, and the sound is NICE. It's not raspy at all, the catback keeps the setup quiet, and it flows REALLY well. I gained 20 RWHP at peak with the FLP's and ORP, and my torque was up considerably throughout the powerband. The torque curve really flattened out! I also had a set on my '98 T/A 383; they're really excellent quality.
