Default Estimate for Heads and Cam

I got an estimate of $5000.00 to port and polish the heads and a new cam for my 99 TA. Does this sound about right? Seems a bit high.

Let's dissect $5000 installed for you:

Cam
Heads
Head gaskests
valve cover gaskets
timing chain cover gasket
Pushrods

I figure cam = $400, heads = $2000 (or more), and extra parts = $200 (or more). Even if we round up to $3000 for it all you you end up paying $2000 in labor.

Labor for heads AND cam should be $900-1400 depending on what is being done to the motor. If you swap the exhaust it will take them time to line everything up.

If you are in PA try:

www.rapidmotorsports.com

I was very happy with the quality of the work and the prices. You won't regret it.

His shop is about 45 minutes from Philly. The address is:

120 Gollob Drive
Birdsboro, PA 19508

Mike Kleman is the owner and anyone here will tell you that he does awesome work. He does all the work himself too.

Seems a little high to me too.

As most heads and cam package end up with gaskets and associated parts being between than $2500 to $2900.

Labor for install seems to be $1000 to $1500 on average.
