Need help from the experts on big cube engine purchase!!
Here is my situation. I have a 99ss m6 with all boltons (except ls6 intake) including the b1cam and flp headers with orp and 3.73 gears and slp dual dual and cutout with the fikse fm10 rims. My latest dyno was 365 rwhp and 360 rwtq. Also I have changed just about every suspension part because I was going to be a road racer at first until I got bit by the drag bug.
The car has approximately 37k high revving miles on it an I was debating getting some stage II thunder racing heads along with the ls6 intake but the engine appears to be pretty tired.
Recently everytime I run the car hard the oil pressure drop to about 20psi and I change it religiously every 3k and always keep it between 5.5 to 6 quarts. My gut feeling is that it's bearing wear so I am hesitant to drop new heads into the deal so this bring me to a bigger cube new motor idea.
Unfortunately, I don't have enough knowledge (dumb as **** about this stuff)to make the right decision because if I spend this kind of money I want to avoid the pitfalls if possible.
I have budgeted already for a 12 bolt, new drive shaft, new clutch, tuning, labor and now I have to decide on the most suitable motor and what price. I have the cash for a 39X up to a 42x but I definitely want a car for primarily street use first and it will see very limited track time. Also reliability is paramount if I am going to spend this kind of money. Also,as an example I love the way my b1cam idles for my m6 and wouldnt want a whole lot worse idle in the new setup.
Question what setup would give me the best bang for the buck? I have a guy in my area to do the install, I just need someone to build me a long block and recommend the appropriate setup in terms of:
cam?
stage III ls6 heads perhaps??
what compression ratio?
etc., etc., etc., and basically what's a fair price for the entire engine only (I've already budgeted for everything else - labor etc.)
I guess in the end I'm looking for a car that will be maybe driven 3 to 4 days a week but put a smile on my face every time I get on the gas!!
So any input from the experts on this board will be greatly appreciated!!
Also, what would be a reasonable rwhp and rwtq expectation for a 42x street setup??
Thanks,
steve
(Also, am I leaving anything out??)

ARE or MTI can get you a great 382-436 shortblock or longblock.
If you want a mild cam go with a 235-240 duration cam on 114LSA and around .600 lift. That would work well with an LS6 intake and S3 heads.
If you are six speed pick up a RAM sintered Clutch package and adj master.
Good headers and exhaust.
If you are going to run DR's etc stick with the stock 12 bolt and 3.42's. Would be a monster on the road course and still drag race pretty well with the gentle launch.
Cheers,
Chris

Bang for the buck? Avoid the forged crankshafts unless you are willing to pay alot for all-out.
I'd suggest:
393ci MTI all-bore
Stage 3 LS6 heads, 11.0:1 CR
Forged pistons
Billet rods
stock crankshaft (not offset grount)
232/232 .595/.595 112 cam (custom)
LS6 intake
Should make about 470 rwhp and idle similar to your B1 cam setup now. My old 382ci pulled 455 rwhp with LS1 heads.
My MTI 434ci LS6 motor should be done in two weeks

PS...it probably would be easier to have the crate motor shipped to Jason and have it installed locally
Hey Brian, you know that I followed your lead with the b1cam and headers but I DEFINITELY DON'T SEE 4.71 GEARS in my future.
All I know is that I am ready for a replacement engine so I did email Jayson at MTI on the 18th but haven't heard back yet. I tried calling again and talked to a guy who said that they don't ship out crate stroker/bigbore motors. They only do install inhouse. He said he was going to have to talk to the shop foreman but just left me on hold.
It sounds like Tony has a pretty good idea with the 393 allbore. I just need to talk to Jayson about it and see what's what. What I want to do is no matter what motor I go with to have it shipped to Jason (in Maryland) for the install.
Also thanks for the all the advice guys.

Jayson is in and out alot lately. MTI is expanding, and he just had a house built and is moving right now. They are very busy at the same time.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate it. These guys must be doing a ton of business to not respond to emails.
