i have ran mobil 1 5w-30 since it was need but thinking of switching to a 40weight for the added protection.

M1-0-40 is what I use on all my LS1s good stuff, the bearings speak for themselves.

Well according to Patman, the Mobil 1 5w40 was the better choice over the 0w40. They pulled the 5w40 a while back when it was labled for "Truck and SUVs" and it's now labeled as "Turbo Diesel Truck". I have been wanting to know myself if they changed the formula on the 5w40, or if it's still the best suited for the LS1 out of the Mobil 1 lineup.

FWIW, I have ran the 0w40 on all changes in my car except for one with the 5w40 while it was still labeled "Truck and SUV". I was going to stick with that til they pulled it from the shelves, so I went back to 0w40 while there was no 5w40 available from Mobil 1. I am going to be needing a change in my car AND 5.3 ltr truck before long, it would be nice to see some analysis, info, etc.

WOW, this was an old thread
