Default Which Is Better

o.k. guys i have been doing alot of reasearch on a new engine for my 2000 TA. and got quotes from alot of the sponcers on this site that gave me quotes ranging from 9000-15000 dollars. then i gave the guys from SDPC a call and for an LS2 long block, LS6 heads upgraded with comp push rods, comp springs, and a 228/236 cam shipped to my door with all the wiring asscessories for an ls1 car for only 6795 and i just cant believe what a good deal that sounds like to me. i would rather have a 402 over a 347 anyday so my question is this. why isent everyone doing this. is there an advantage to building an LS1 that i dont know about. i drive my car almost everyday and i figure this would be te most reliable way to go and still put down some where between 400-420 rwhp.

please post up your opinions because i will be getting something very soon and just want to make surei have gone over all my options.

Because if you go big, then going without stage 3 heads, intake and all the goodies is pointless.
The SDPC deal is good but the heads are the weak point and the cam you chose way small for these cubes purpose.
Good replacement mild deal though.

Predator hit the nail on the head. This is a big cube motor that is an "O.K." setup. Not that it is bad...but there is a ton left on the table with the heads, cam, and intake that they are mating with that combo.

That is why there is such a big difference in price between motors. Some do the budget thing, and others do the quality heads, cam, intake....etc.

Then some do the top of the line in everything...which is where you see the power/performance...and top notch reliability, warranty, and craftsmanship.

Hope this helps

thanks guys i do see what your saying, but i have to say that i still like the deal. if and when i do it i will consider a larger cam and i will definaly get the FAST 90/90 setup. so what size cam do you recommend. i thought that 228/236 was a pretty good choice, also i will be spraying a 100 dryshot.

Have them throw some L92 heads and a bigger cam in there, and call it a day. Would still be an economical package, with more performance.

That's a great price for what you're getting, and I'd bet SDPC will customize it for just a little more $$. However, I think you're underestimating what that combo will put out for power. I'd guess about 460/460 with a LS6 intake.

you all are right i realy dident think about it like that....but still i just think its a darn good deal that i cant pass up besides my Trans Am is driven daily and not a track car i already have the camaro which is a forged 396 with all the goodies capable of sucking down alot of juice. i will still go with their deal but just get a bigger cam and the L92 heads that setup along with a 100 shot should be plenty for me.

Also, with the L92 head route you will save alot of money on the intake setup as the only intake for it as of yet is the L76 and with injectors it is only 450. So, you are saving 400 over the fast setup which will help offset the cost of the heads if any.

Best choice in my mind. SDPC should be able to give you a great deal on that package. Thing will be a beast.
