Well, I do know that 114 cams are better for nitrous. 114 cams also idle better. It also seems that the 114 cams do slightly better at the drag strip, but the 112 cams are more fun around town.

112 is potentially better for drag strip use in an A4. It can feed a little more torque at launch to the converter than a 114. Of course, this will depend on the other cam specs and stall speed.

larger LSA:
more low end power
higher HP peak (RPM, not actual HP)
smoother idle
more idle vacum
wider powerband for combos that dont have as many gears to choose from or wider spaced gears
better for FI and N2O applications because of less overlap, so you dont bleed as much cyl pressure off.

smaller LSA:
less low end torque
lower HP peak (again RPM wise)
rougher Idle
Less idle vacum
narrower powerband, but more powerfull than a wider LSA, good for setups with more gears to choose from or more closely spaced gears

The above goes for all LSA's comparitively, but the differences is fairly small when talking about 112-114. Now a 108-116 would be a noticable difference

if i remember right 112's kick in a little bit sooner power wise than 114's. 114's have a smoother idle which makes them easier to tune for emissions if you have an A4.

Freak that was an excellent write up.

To shorten it I would add:

Typically... L/S =
112- more peakish power in a lower RPM band... rougher idle
114- broader power band with a higher PEAK power later in the RPM band. With a better idle

The differences become more pronounced the larger the gap between the two numbers becomes.

Don`t forget,, that info all depends on how the cam is degreed and installed, plus if they both have the same ramp angles, etc. etc. .112 and .114 LSA is so close that you can actually make them perform about the same. Same power range, same idle and all. IMO

Looks like these are posted in the bias of wide LSA camshafts.

BTW, how can narrow LSA "bleed off cyll pressure" when overlap occurs during the end of the exhaust phase, and beginning of the induction phase.

What can happen is there is reversion out of the intake, but once the engine speed gets up there,
this won't happen and this overlap helps cyllinder fill. This why narrow LSA cams usually have higher peak TQ numbers.

One could say that since exhuast opens earlier on wide LSA that wide LSA cams "bleed off power during the power stroke". And during induction phase " don't have intake valve in as a favorable position during peak downward piston velocity.".

Its all a matter of how you look at it.
