Default Oil drain bolt pics. Input/Feedback welcome.

Here's my drain bolt from changing the oil just recently. This is a HPE N/A 408 with about 3000 miles on it. Let me know what you think about the accumulation on the plug.

I think it looks fine considering the engine is brand new.

Maybe that is normal for a break in period. Its not that bad for the first 3K miles.

I notice my oil pressure is a bit lower than I'd like. I have ported LS6 and my hot pressure is something like 25ish and 35ish cruising. It's not starving for oil, but the pressure could definitely be higher. Of course, the pump isn't exactly the highest pressure one out there.

could be normal for engine break in but keep an eye on the oil pressure to make sure it doesn't drop any lower at idle that what it is now.

when i first looked at it, i thought it wasnt to bad......after u mentioned the oil psi, i'd definately keep an eye on it. Mine looks similar (a little less) at 26k, but has strong psi.

Keep in mind, this is not a regular 3k interval. I do my oil changes about every 1.5k miles as that works out to about every 6 months b/c I don't drive the car much. So this had 1500 miles, max, on it.

normal. mine did that for the first few oil changes when it was brand new build. I see plugs come out like that all the time changing oil at work. but def. keep an eye on the oil press. any sudden changes should raise a huge flag. Im sure it did have a bit higher oil presure when the eng. was new, but after this many miles, shouldnt drop anymore IMHO.
good luck.

Looks fine to me. You'll get funk in the first few changes no doubt.

My bolt has about that many shaving on it. At idle it hits 0 oil pressure.. Is this a for shure bearing or could it be something else... Sorry to butt in here...

IMO thats low pressure and lots of shavings. My hot oil pressure at idle (750 RPM) is at 40psi, but i'm on a stock shortblock/oil pump.

I think when I bought my car new, I had more shavings than that on the first oil change. 82000 miles later, still ok!
