Default LS1 rod bearing locators?

Do ALL LS1 rods have dual bearing tang locator positions or is it just 98 rods? I know my small block chevy rods only have 1 on the cap and 1 on the rod, not 2 on cap and 2 on rod on the same side.

I know that they are there for just assembly purposes and not for support to keep the bearings from rotating (the bearing crush is supposed to keep the bearing from rotating on the rod), but why did GM machine another notch? In doing this, the tang has nothing to but up against and it looks like the bearing can rotate if the tang is crushed.

Anyone know? Ideas?

No one looks at their rods when they rebuild their engines?

Jax - Yeah, the actual bearings only have one, but the rods have dual notches. SBC rods don't and I'm willing to bet that aftermarket LS1 rods don't either.

Havent actually looked at one but do u mean the notches are machined into the rod and cap as one cut ? ( still actually 2 notches on the same side of the rod ) If so i think they are like most alloy rods on the market. I think they do it this way because its quicker meaning cheaper to do it this way as they don't have to split the rod to set up & machine them. It won't give u any problems. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
