Default Oil Problems + Service Engine Soon bs

Hello everyone,

This is my first time on the boards, so give a newbie some help won't ya? I got me a beautiful 99 Trans Am, but the bastard's giving me some trouble and I need your advice.

At about 1500 to 1700 miles after an oil change the dipstick was reading right at the bottom and my Low Oil light would stay on constantly. After a lot of bull from the service center, they finally replaced all the oil rings and whatnot to fix this problem.

Now around 2700 miles, the dipstick reads below the operational range into the add area. Thats much better than before. At least I can go 3000 miles before I have to change my oil, but my question is...
Should my brand new Trans Am be burning any oil at all? Shouldn't the oil level be in the operational range even at 3000 miles and more?

The service center says its a GM standard for the car to burn 1/2 to 3/4 a quart for every 1000 miles. Is this true? Or are they trying to f*** me?

Also, now my Service Engine Soon stays on for a day or two, then goes away. Then the next day its back again. This has been going on for about a week now. I read the manual and it says its an emissions problem. Any ideas? I brought it in for service but the light went out before I got there so they said they couldn't check it. I hate them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Bob

For the SES code you can find someone with Autotap or just go to an Autozone and they will scan it for free. As for the oil Yes 1 qt per 1000 miles is the standard. If you still have the warranty keep complaining and make them to an oil consumption test. Did I cover everything?
