Default 4" bore = how many cubes?

What size would a LS1 be if it was bored to 4"?

I have a question:

Is the 6.0L still considered a member of the LS1 family like the LS6 is.

Also, can you use a 4.0 crank for a LS1 in the 6.0L? If you can, what would that make the total CI?

Has anyone done this, or does anyone not reccomend this for reliablity?

Thanks
matt

We just finished building this setup your are talking about at Thunder for a member on here (XtraCajunSS on ls1tech.com). If you bore the 6.0l block 30 thousandths (4.03" bore) and use the Luanti 4" stroke, you come out with 408-409ci. 6.0l heads would be a good choice on this motor as well, since they do flow better than a LS1 head and will keep the compression down. The only downside to this setup is the extra weight from the iron block, but add a lightweight k-member, dynobat battery, and remove a few other misc. items, you will offset a great majority of the added weight. And, you will not have to worry about dropping a sleeve like some of the re-sleeved aluminum LS1 blocks have.

The 6.0l block bolts in with no problems (except for one alternator bolt hole and a ground on the passenger side). However, this is easily fixed by drilling and tapping a new hole for the alt. and just grounding the wire to the motor mount.

IM SOLD!
409 is the magic number for me.

I have the crank and pistons from lunati (for the 382 stroker kit)

If these pistons will work, please e-mail me how much labor will be to bore my iron block, install the internals, and balance the motor.

I want a mid size stroker that will handle 150-200 shot of N2O, and I'm looking for a compression ration close to stock so I can run 93 octane all day long!

Probably need a good split duration TR cam to go along with it.

Matt_Brown@mail.utexas.edu.

Thank you Jason

The pistons from the 382 Lunati stroker kit won't work. They're for the stock 3.9" bore in the aluminum block. You'd have to get custom pistons.

Matt, Trevor is correct. You will need to get custom pistons for a 4.03" bore. JE or Lunati both offer pistons in these sizes. You could also try contacting Lunati if the pistons have not been used and see if they will take them back. It is worth a shot.

For a quote, give Thunder Racing an email.

I have new plans for the future!! Now I won't have to worry about anything when I get ready to build my big motor.(maybe next summer) I never thought about running an iron block before. I am thinking about it now.
