Default new guy with question

I just purchased a 35 aniversary camaro and want to do some things to it. This is what i am going to do to it. Ported heads, hot cam, and hooker long tubes and y. I will be running it through the center exahust. The car is a manual. I would like to know what kind of numbers i should be looking at getting from the dyno and the track. Also will this work without any computer tunning. I would like to wait till ls-1 edit comes out for the car before i do tunning. What else should i do to the thing. Any help would be helpful thanks.

Ported Heads: If you are going to have the heads off to get them portted, you might as well upgrade the entire head (unless you know a local porter) springs / valves the whole shabang.

Hot Cam: I would recommend upgrading your valvetrain again.

Hooker LT and Y: Okay.

LS1 Edit: LS1 edit is already out if you don't mind having your PCM re-flashed as an earlier year.

Programming: You may or may not want to get the car programmed depending on how it behaves with the new setup. Odds are that you are going to run lean or rich (I'm thinking lean) and will most likely want to get some form of tuning done to car for longevity sake, and getting the most out of your mods.

Recommendation: Unless you are very familiar with engines (like some of the brains we have on this board) I would recommend a Heads/Cam package from one of our sponsors. All of the Engineering headache is already done for you (correct springs/valves/retainers etc...), and you are able to see ahead of time that the package works well together.

A heads/cam/exhaust should get you above the 380's (this is conservative). Without any traction mods (slicks etc...) you should run mid to low 12's.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I was going to have a guy locally port the heads going with stainless valves. He says he can get 300 to 310 out of them. Are these good numbers? He also wants to modify the stock intake. Is this ok to do?

Those are good numbers for the head. As for the intake, just make sure that he doesn't hog it out too much (has he done these before?). There have been a few people on this board that have lost significant HP by taking too much out of the intake. There have been some people that have had good luck with it though. FYI

Me personally, I left my LS6 (same kind that is on your car) intake alone and focused all of my gains (read money) on upgrading my heads with a good cam.

Basicaly my guy wants to cut the bottom of it open and shorten the runner length. He wants to increase the height of the port inside the intake. Seen one that he has done as a proto type and it looks good. But not sure how it works. What kind of things have other people done? Thanks nogo

The Hot Rod is at Thunder Racing right now for a few new Mod's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If you need a badass cam give them a call. Tell them Coach sent ya. They will hook you up. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

It is my opinion that upgrading your intake isn't going to provide gains that you are going to be able to significantly take advantage of given your current setup. Unless you are going to be spinning your engine +7000 rpm, or plan on increasing your cubes (ie 422 ci engine), the consequences may out-weigh the gains.
Hogging out your plenum and decreasing your runner length will give you an intake that will flow better, but it will defiantly shift your peak torque point up in the RPM band. There are two downfalls to this. First drivability will be compromised because of the lack of low-end torque. Second, you will need a setup that will provide the RPM necessary to properly take advantage of this new peak.

Now, if you see Forced induction, big cubes, or high rpms in your future, by all means go for it. Otherwise, I would recommend some method of trying his work out first.... It all depends on how much he plans on taking off.

With a modified intake, you car will make more power, but at the cost of streetability.

Good luck.
