What are the charicteristics of a bent or slightly bent push rod?
What are the charicteristics of a bent or slightly bent push rod? My car has recently developed a slight tapping or ticking when cold. It is not piston slap.(I know that sound) I hear it on decceleration from 2K rpm to idle.I don't seem to hear it on acceleration. It is erratic and not steady.It dissappears once the car is warmed up. Does this sound like a pushrod?
Re: What are the charicteristics of a bent or slightly bent push rod? pushrods pretty much tap all the time. As you let the noise go on, it eventually gets worse (pushrod starts to bend even more) and it will eventually break and you will get an SES for a cylinder failure (misfire).
That tapping when its cold is most likely your AIR check-valves fluttering.

I have the air restrictor plates installed so the air check valves are ruled out.The noise is definitely coming from the valve train. It pretty much goes away, although not 100%, once the car is warm. I plan on installing my headers within the next couple of weeks so I will check the pushrods then. Is there anything else it might be?
