Slight backfire

Slight backfire I recently did a head/cam/header swap and the car runs great. The only problem I have noticed is that with the orp it has alot of reverb, and when its cold it will have a small backfire at least one or two times while its warmig up. Its not very loud but quite noticable(kinda sounds like wet fire wood popping). I would like to know if this common or does this need to be addressed. If so what can be wrong. I think it just migt be cause I am running the orp with a straight pipe <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Yes you can hear me coming from blocks away
Re: Slight backfire When your engine is warming up it is going to be running rich. With such a free flowing exhaust it is normal to get some carry over. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are getting crazy backfiring under normal driving conditions.

Re: Slight backfire Right, when cold your engine is operating in open loop (meaning that it isn't utilizing the O2 sensors to adjust the fuel/air raito). That makes it rich and causes a little popping when decelerating or between gears. Perfectly normal to notice this with a free flowing exhaust. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
