Default Any Harm In switching Synthetics?

I have been running Mobil 1 since the car has been new (about 5 or 6 Oil Changes). Is there any harm in trying different oils?

I have been thinking about Royal Purple, but wanted to make sure this is a good idea first...
Also, is it true that once you go synthetic, you can't go back to conventional oil?

Good question bro.I switched and didnt have a problem. But that was from valvoline synthetic blend and I dont know what was in the car before that.I got it used with 12,000 miles on the clock.I beleive that is bs about changing oils though but I am not always right.

There is no harm whatsoever in switching brands of oils, or even going back and forth between synthetic and conventional oil. I know some people that use synthetic only in our cold winter months up here, but then go back to conventional for the winter, and vice versa too, some go with synthetics all summer, but for the time they store their cars, they put conventional oil in there.

in the Bad Old Days, some manufacturer's additives would react with others, causing the antioxidants and wear inhibitors to precipitate out, leaving your engine with the equivalent of dirty straight run mineral oil, but since at least the late 1970's that I know of, SAE rated oils won't do that, so you can mix and match.
IMO, all non-synthetics are pretty much alike as far as change intervals...

Dave is correct, the early days of synthetics, they would not mix with conventional oils properly, and a gel like substance would result. But those fears are long gone, as all oils out there must be fully compatible with every other oil now.
