Different cams each create different harmonics in different places in the valvetrain, especially in the springs. For that reason, every time you change cams, you should change valvesprings.

Get rid of them. A buddy of mine broke a 941 with his TR224 a couple of months ago. I think he had about 5K on them. Easy to change out and a lot better than breaking one.

Default 941 should they stay or go

I have a set of comp 941's on my heads and am most likely going to go with the Thunder 224 cam. The springs currently have about 1K on them. The question is, should I go ahead and get rid of the 941's for a set of 918's. Or will the 941's be alright? Thanks

Jason

CRASH 02, I would call Thunder Racing and ask them what spring works best on that cam.
I would stay away from the 941 on the LS1/LS6, nothing wrong with them on other applications such as L98 or LT1 depending on the cam. The 918s we use up to a 224 cam with no more than .570 lift. For more aggressive cams we use a dual spring setup that requires no seat cutting and clears the stock rockers.

Julio.

I'd definitely replace them with 918's. A local guy that lives in Plano has had the 941's for over a year now. One broke on him earlier this week, and it actually jammed so that it would not allow the valve to open. I'm running .581" lift w/ the 918's, and so far so good (knock on wood!).

have hadmy 941's in for over 10K miles, with no problems whatsoever!! reving the car to 6600 rpms too. I've used both the comp cam 212/218 525 lift and the TR 224 566 cam with these springs. i guess they work for me.

941 has a maximum lift of 0.500, most aftermarket cams are rated at.530~.590 lift so it's pretty much a time-bomb and ready to go kaboom if you're still running them with your T1/B1/TR224 or any other popular cams with .500+ lift. check out the 941 specs here: http://www.compcams.com/catalog/306_307.html

use the 918, it's rated at around .600~.625 max lift.

BTW, I've been running my 941's with my T1 cam (.558/.558 221/221 112lsa) for 45,000 miles... couple of my stock lifters recently took a dump on my T1 and took it out... I now have a .574/.574 222/222 114lsa cam with my same 45K mile 941's and they are just great... the old batch of 941's are just fine...
