Default Help me with initial start up paranoia after DIY engine swap

I swapped my busted short for another used one. I checked the used one's main bearings and they looked fine, so I used the short.

This was my first EVER attempt at an engine swap. I went slow, used assembly lube, correct torque specs etc...

I reused my old lifters and heads. I installed the TR230 111 cam w/ stock length hardened PRs and 918s, tit. retainers.

So here's my paranoia:
Car gets very hot
Valvetrain noise
low lull from the tranny while driving.

Things I think I did wrong:
I didn't purge air from the coolant system. (I'll try that in the morning)

I didn't match the flexplate to the crank flange when I put it on. Could this cause the lull from the tranny? Out of balance?

The valvetrain noise doesn't seem excessive. My Hotcam didn't make this much noise. Is this just normal for this cam?

Please help.

Let me field the very hot. You could have air in the system but pretty easy to get out. last time I just let mine run with the cap off and kept adding water. Had the heater on full blast. The heat temp would rise and fall till the air was out of the system. next, first time i put mine together I had one of the head gaskets flipped over the wrong way. Big coolant holes go to the back. Also, my car ran fine before the rebuild without the guts in the thermostat. After rebuild it ran hot....replaced guts and it was better.

I'm sure I have the gaskets the right way.

I'll have to try to get the air out this afternoon.
