Coil Pack probs, burnt wires? HELP!?!
I'm chasing down some electrical gremlins. Might be bad wires or coil packs or wiring. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> Already swapped Coil Pack 3/C for a new one. Changed Wires on Cyl #3 & #5. New set of wires & sleeves will be here tomorrow. Might change plugs. Driving me crazy...
It's intermittent. After the coilpack #3 swap was ok for 5-10 mins. After Wire #5 replaced was good for 2 days. Now it's back.
"Code P0353 Ignition Coil 3 Control Circuit, Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction" keeps coming back. Car runs like it's missing or running out of gas. Almost like being on 7 Cylinders.
Worth checking if an injector is failing? Focus on electrical? Fuel Pump? Should I change plugs? Can I trust the PCM DTC that it's a coil pack?? I already replaced it... What more wiring do I need to check? I replaced just the pack, not the whole driver side 4x Coil Pack assembly board.

Have ya fired up the car somewheres really dark w/ the hood open? ALL lights off? Check to see if there's a wild spark gettin' out somewheres...
I loaned my Helms out, so I can't be looking (damn, those things are invaluable...)

This may be totally worthless, or it may be worth a thought....
A co-worker of mine was complaining of his car ('98 Olds) idling rough, and it was setting the SES light. It would go away at normal cruising speeds, but always came back at idle.
I brought in my laptop so I could run AutoTap and see what code the car was setting. It was a misfire code (don't remember what cylinder). The Oldsmobile is also a coil-per-cylinder car, so we moved a coil to a different location. We also swapped wires, but the problem stayed on the same cylinder. Since he has an extended warranty, he went ahead and took the car into the dealership, and after having the car half a day, determined it was a dirty fuel injector. We were both skeptical, but he had them clean the injectors and the problem went away... It's been fine since then (about a month now...)
So to answer your question, it could be an injector... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
