Idle problems, please advise.....
I finally got my car back together, but it won't idle. When I first crank it up, it runs up to 2000-2200 then stumbles and tries to go dead. if I feather the throttle, it'll keep running, but it makes a "popping" sound that you can hear through the throttle body. I have no idea what this is, it sounds somewhat like a muffled backfire.
Please Help!!!!
Thanks in advance guys!

I got to thinking (dangerous at times, I know) and I noticed that when I would give the motor a little gas to keep it running, that it would rev up to around 3000-3500 depending on the amount of throttle, and then it would SLOOOWWWWWWLY wind back down and then die. Then I remembered from somewhere back in my past that somebody had told me that a vacuum leak would cause a motor to be slow to return to idle. Well, my car was VERY slow to return to idle.
I checked my TB bolts, they were good, I checked my hose clamps on my FIPK, tight there too.
Then I thought, wait a minute, I didn't personally check the intake bolts after my buddy put them in on the drivers side. A long shot I thought, but definitely worth a try.
Well, I found 1 tight, 2 snug and 2 that I hadt o tighten a couple of rounds with my fingers before the ratchet would even ratchet.
I tightend all of them down pretty snug, and checked the passenger side. There were a couple that were questionable, so i tightened them all down a couple of clicks.
I sat down in the seat, said a little prayer, and hit the key.
And like music to my ears.... no spittin, no sputtering, no revving to 2500, no dying, simply...... purring, at 800 rpms.
Not even a single hunt for and idle, straight to 800 rpm's, and there she sat, for 5 full minutes, while I checked everything for leaks, smoke, noises, etc....
All I gotta say is thanks, not just for this thread, but for the coutless others that I have posted in my quest for more power, you guys are the greatest!!!
Thanks again!
Taco
