chain snapped at high rpms. whats the chances I ruined a piston? If a piston is ruined I am going to try and get it warrantied as I don't want to pay for a new block. If the pistons are still good I will install a heads/cam package. I just don't want risk pulling the heads to find piston(s) ruined and then having to put it all back together to get it warrentied.
thanks, jeremy

Most likely bent all the valves if it was at high rpms.
Pistons will all have crescent marks from the pistons. Not sure the pistons will have damage beyond that but I'd go for a whole new motor if you can.
I bent 7 intake valves when I snapped mine.
Two exhaust valves.

You're gonna have to pull the heads anyway. PSJ is right, you chewed up your valves and put "eyelash" marks in the pistons. How are you gonna get this warrantied? Is this a stock car? New valves, guides and valve seats are a must. There's probably a lot more damaged as well.

Heres the damage from when my chain snapped. Its hard to see the depth but the grooves at the top of the circles are deeper than the thickness of a quarter.

DAMN! I thought my brother's pistons on his '00 SS looked bad File those grooves down and wipe up the shavings with a greasy rag to remove them all. You could have weakened/damaged your rod bearings but my brother's SS seems to be holding up fine after we replaced his heads. We got his complete heads, gaskets, etc from Valvegod for a great price.
