Default Drilling the TB question.,..

I have an ASA cam on it's way that will be going in within the next two weeks or so. I've been told that there is no chance it will run with stock programming. He said drilling the TB would help, but not solve the problem, still very difficult to keep it running. He also said that I'll defenitly need to drill, not just because of keeping it running but to keep vaccum up. So if it won't run, or well, will kind of run drilling the TB, but theoretically can only drive it to get programming because it will be so bad, how far do I drill? Also, whats the maximum I can drill the TB?

I wouldn't think that it will run that bad. You will need to drill the TB but the ASA cam is mild by comparison to some of the cams being run out there with stock tuning.

I'd say try it first...

Thanks for the help Shane, I'm defenitly going to try it first, but as I drill out size by size... where should I not go past?? I don't want to make it so I can never use that throttle body again.

It might take a while, but step it up no more than 2 drill sizes at a time... I drilled mine too big the first time and had to get another blade... You will need some way to read your IAC count - a Scanmaster would work and get your IAC down to around 35-40. My 409 is using a 5/16" hole so I don't think you would get any larger than a couple sizes less than that.

Thanks Shane, I don't have as many worries getting this cam to idle now. Is anyone else running a 110lsa on stock heads and displacement? What size is the stock hole??

If you have bad idle after 100miles then
drill to 13/64". Go another 50+ miles.. if you
dont like it 15/64"
At that point try the now famous 'TropperMod'
Where you can put shimms of various thickness
on top of your idle stop screw. I have a .025"
clip made of 26 or 28 ga sheet metal from home
depot. I tried some thicker and some thinner.
There is a fine line between a good idle and throwing codes.. ( high idle ).
That is a fairly bad *** cam so , sitting in traffic with ac on is not a major goal here.
By the way.. most I have ever read that someone
drilled the TB was 17/64"

I drilled mine to 13/64..no stalling so far and can run the air also no problem..but ..my iac counts do hit zero now...but car seems to start, idle and run fine..I haven't checked the counts with the air on..what exactly does having the idle count hit zero do thats so bad..I guess I could put a rivet in there and then drill it out again a bit smaller. Also rather than try to shim that tb screw just reverse it and then you can adjust it from top, much easier and no shims needed.its simple to take off and reinstall the tb..I drilled it off the car as well.
