383 stroker?
i want to convert my stock ls1 motor to a 383 stroker, if i were to do this would it be like a rebuilt engine with 0 miles on it. Also would this engine be more durable then a regular 350 ls1 engine? thanks for all replies and info
There are a lot of "if's" in your question, but I'll give it a shot.
To convert your engine to a 383 you, naturally, will have the engine out of the car. You could choose to do just the bare minimum, and just replace those necessesary components to make the stroker crank work (pistons, crank, rods...), but while the engine is out of the car, most opt to go through the entire lower half and upgrade their components. This would be a full rebuild, and can get fairly expensive.
Whether or not your new 383 will be more durable than a stock 346, depends on what stuff you use. Upgrading the upper half of the engine (heads and valvetrain) will also play a big factor into how long your engine will last before you are under the hood again.
Refer to some of the sponsers that we have to the right, and they should be able to get you in the right direction with the type of setup that you are looking for (cost vs performance). ARE and Thunder Racing are the two that I prefer.
Good Luck <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
