Default How high do you shift and does it matter?

I was wondering what everyone feels is the max rpm someone should stick too on a heads/cam LS1 with stock timing chain?

I am curious to what everyone does. Do the timing chains (and other parts) have a significantly shorter life span shifting at 6200 vs 6700?

I always shift at 6400 and my rev limiter is at 6600. I've always wondered if there was more in it by revving higher but wouldn't feel safe doing it.

I see 6600 and 6700 quite a bit. DOH!

I usually try to shift at 6200 but I can't stop watching the dash long enough (I like how my tach flies from left to right ) to shift when my light comes on. I am going to have to stop that stuff.

You bunch of wussies. j/k I'm shifting at 6,800 with the stock chain. I did the same thing on my '98 T/A, and it lasted over 30,000 hard miles for me. It only had 3,000 miles on it, though, with me shifting at 6,800. FWIW, I plan on changing to a Katech chain when I swap to L.G.'s G5 cam in the next few weeks. There's no need taking my chances, especially since I'll be right there to change it.

6800 shiftpoints, 7000 limiter, stock chain - still all in one piece, luckily.

Finally, insane voices of reason! Thanks guys. I plan on changing out that chain within a year. I swapped a new one in when the heads/cam went on but I want to make sure I don't have any problems.
